Under the direction of Colby B. Jubenville, the Center for Sport Policy and Research has a staff of academicians and practitioners that all play important roles in CSPR's function.
Colby B. Jubenville, Ph.D. Director
Jubenville earned his bachelor’s degree at Millsaps College and his master’s and doctorate degrees at The University of Southern Mississippi. He currently serves as an associate professor, coordinator of the graduate sport management program, and coordinator of the doctoral program in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn. In addition, he is the publisher of the Journal of Sport Administration & Supervision. Previously, he served as an assistant professor and sport management program coordinator at Belhaven College and Eastern Kentucky University. Jubenville’s research has resulted in over 25 peer reviewed and professional trade journal articles and over 30 national and international presentations.
Micheal J. Burt, ABD
Coordinator of Leadership and Creative Development
As Coordinator of Leadership and Creative Development, Burt will serve as a spokesman for the center, aiding in the promotion of CSPR on the local, regional and national levels. The author of three books, the most recent This Ain’t No Practice Life, Burt serves as the Chief Leadership Officer for multiple companies as well as his own Maximum Success, a leadership consulting firm. Burt has worked with some of the top companies in the nation as a speaker, coach, and consultant.
Benjamin D. Goss, Ed.D. Coordinator of Special Projects
Goss received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Louisiana Tech University and his doctorate at The University of Southern Mississippi. Currently he serves as an assistant professor in the entertainment management program within the Department of Management and the College of Business Administration at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo. He has authored or co-authored 11 peer-reviewed refereed journal articles, two book chapters, and several trade journal articles. Goss’ vita includes 56 professional conference presentations, including 30 at the international and national levels. He was a co-founder of and currently serves as editor-in-chief for the Journal of Sport Administration & Supervision.
Minsoo Kang, Ph.D.
Coordinator of Measurement and Evaluation
Kang earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Seoul National University in South Korea and his doctorate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He currently serves as an assistant professor, director of Kinesmetrics Research Laboratory, in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Middle Tennessee State University. His background is in measurement and evaluation in Kinesiology with emphasis in IRT, Rasch, and psychometrics. Kang served as a psychometric consultant for the American College of Sports Medicine Certification Program. He now serves on the Editorial Board for the journals, Korean Society of Measurement and Evaluation and Journal of Sport Administration and Supervision. Kang is currently the chair-elect of the Measurement and Evaluation Council in the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), and he is a fellow in the Research Consortium of the AAHPERD. Kang has published over 25+ refereed journal articles, presented more than 50+ research projects, including 10 invited presentations, and received 14 research grants/contracts, since 2004.
J. Michael Martinez, M.S. Coordinator of Marketing and Development
Martinez earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The University of Southern Mississippi and received his doctorate from MTSU in Human Performance with a specialization in Leisure Studies. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Sport and Fitness Management at Troy University's Global E Campus. Prior to entering the doctoral program at MTSU, he had an eight-year career in the fields of marketing and communications and fundraising, working as a sports journalist, athletic media relations specialist and manager of communications for a non-profit organization. He currently serves as the Assistant Editor for Publications for the Journal of Sport Administration & Supervision.
Bruce Lund Coordinator of Public Relations
As the Public Relations Coordinator for the Center for Sport Policy and Research, Lund will perform a variety of functions in his role with the academic research and instruction center. Building and maintaining positive relationships with the media as well as individuals and organizations connected to the regional sport industry is at the forefront.
Lund, a Michigan native, will handle organizational functions pertaining to the media, community, consumer, and industry relations. He will draft press releases and articles for the media to print or broadcast, while also maintaining day-to-day operations within the Public Relations Department.
Coupling his efforts with CSPR, Lund is pursuing a doctorate in Health Performance at MTSU. Lund's previous experience includes working as a Community Relations Assistant for the Nashville Sounds, and writing as a journalist for the Grand Rapids Press (Grand Rapids, Mich.) for two years upon graduation from Hope College (Holland, Mich.) with a B.A. in English and Communications. He played one year of baseball at Maryville College (Maryville, Tenn.) and three years at Hope as a pitcher.
Lund was involved in the editing process of a book for MTSU alumnus’ Micheal Burt (Founder of Maximum Success) and Rick Insell (head MTSU women’s basketball coach) titled The Anatomy of Winning, the most expansive book released by Burt to date.
